Stepping Stones

Thameside Primary Stepping Stones provides an alternative provision for children who are unable to access a mainstream curriculum. We support vulnerable young people with challenging behaviours to realise their full potential.

With extensive experience of delivering services to children and young people who have experienced difficulties in mainstream schools and whose education has irretrievably broken down, we support learners to achieve their academic ability and progress onto a smooth transition into secondary education. This approach delivers significant long-term benefits to learners, parents and carers.

Children who come into the provision require a significantly adapted curriculum to enable them to progress and enjoy learning. The provision targets young people who fall into high risk groups in all key stages, including those who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools and those with social, emotional and/or mental health needs (SEMH) or special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The ethos of Thameside Primary’s Stepping Stones is based on the Co-operative values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and sharing a sense of collective responsibility for supporting each other. In partnership with our primary school, we focus on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school setting. It is our aim to ensure that we help them to regain a sense of confidence and self-esteem to enable them to learn alongside their peers.
